The Unconventional Diabetic

We often assume that certain medical conditions have the same protocol and medication for everyone. Seldom does one see an impact out of the ordinary, which was the case with our client who was a diabetic for almost a decade now but at 34, was concerned not with his blood sugar but his muscle loss that led to his weight loss.

Our Approach

We were concerned here as our client was young, and this muscle loss and weight loss despite dysregulated blood sugar levels was not quite working out. Symptom and lifestyle assessments revealed that certain events coupled with the diabetes and inherited risk of cardiovascular diseases may have led to the chronic cortisol production caused with low grade stress that lies within the body for long periods of time causing systemic inflammation which contributed to this muscle loss, weight loss and blood sugar imbalance.

  • We devised a protocol suitable to our client where we introduced foods that were pro-metabolic, liver supporting and blood sugar regulating at the same time focusing on protein intake to support muscle building.

  • This wasn’t going to be achieved anytime soon, but with slow and steady introduction of foods in the correct combinations and timings along with lifestyle modifications like introducing regular exercise to support muscle turnover and manage stress, we were on the right track.

Results

Our client has come a long way now, blood sugar levels have been better, muscle mass is in check and the weight is happy and stable. He feels better, a lot more in control of his diabetes.
