From fear of food to seeing beyond the weighing scale.

Since the age of 19, I have lived a life of constant manic between losing weight and managing PCOS. Back then it seemed like a simple equation of lower the pounds better managed is the PCOS- sounds simple right?

Not many told me that it was the onset of a journey of learning about my body and its needs, my hormones and all those systems at play that nourish the cycle of life.

CERTIFIED NUTRITIONIST

My weight seemed to be the only gauge of my success, self confidence and talent. I went through the journey of various diets, meal plans and workout sessions to knock off the pounds. It worked but the pleasure was temporary as I never felt as beautiful within.

I just could not see beyond the weighing scale.

I lost the weight but gained the fear of food, the discomfort of indulging in my favourite meal from mom’s kitchen and dreaded stepping on the scale.

And for the record, the PCOS was far from managed.

In my career as a professional home baker, I came across a lot of clients who loved what I baked for them but couldn’t indulge in it because it would make them fat – or rather add the pounds. That’s when it dawned on me that I wasn’t the only one who feared food. But why should I?

Why should a bite of dark chocolate or a slice of cake give me nightmares when it should be comforting me?

With my culinary and baking skills I decided to dive into the world of nutrition and certified myself as a clinical nutritionist and weight management specialist from the American College of Sports Medicine. It is here that I learnt the needs of the human body to restore and repair its functions while eating delicious and nutritious foods- desserts too!

I discovered protocols that were healing and supportive of my weight and comforted me to enjoy that cake or cookie once in a while.

Growing up in a country and culture where you turn to home remedies and natural practices before conventional medicine, I knew my practice and protocols had to follow similar principles of health and wellness achieving a balanced body, mind and weight!

On moving to Canada, I decided to add to my education by enrolling into the natural nutrition diploma at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition (CSNN) while I worked with a leading health and wellness retail chain. Here I gained knowledge and ability to bridge the gap between food, supplementation beauty and healthcare to achieve the best outcome for the ourselves – restored, repaired and progressive.

Now, I choose to spend my time educating and supporting professionals who are looking to manage their weight, balance hormones and improve digestion-all through the magic of whole foods.

When not consulting, I love reading mythology, baking my cookie stash and studying floor plans of homes! Over weekends, you can catch me in a pick your own farm or an early morning trail walk!
